General Academic Policies
Eligibility:
o Intense desire for greater maturity and spiritual integration in
the personal life.
o Apostolic zeal to dedicate oneself for witnessing and fostering Gospel
values.
o Sufficient knowledge of English which is the common medium of
instruction and interaction.
o Education level; at least PUC / equivalent.
o For the Diploma programme the cut off eligibility age is below 45.
o For the certificate course eligibility age is 45 years and above.
Students
Residential Students:
The ones who reside in Dhyanavana Institute of Spirituality, during
the whole academic year, forming a religious community of prayer,
learning and activity.
Day Scholars:
These attend the academic programmes offered by Dhyanavana from
their own residences.
Special Students / Participants of an Extension Course:
The ones who attend only a few selected courses, (with a duration of
1-3 months extended throughout the academic year), which are offered by
Dhyanavana.
Duration:
All the programmes in all the three institutes are residential. The
Annual Diploma Course in Spiritual Theology at Dhyanavana commences
generally on the 1st of July and terminates with the convocation day on
the following 19th of March. Whereas the certificate course at Dhyana
Sadhana and Ryshivana commence in early August. There will be a two-week
recess for Christmas festivities
Application:
Applications to be obtained from the respective Director and should
be submitted at the earliest, in the regular proforma. Those admitted
will be duly notified and registered when the registration fee and first
installment is paid. Those registered will receive a calendar, detailed
syllabus, etc. on arrival. The admissions are restricted to a maximum of
fifty-five for the annual Diploma course and forty-five each for the
Certificate course.
Administration:
Dhyanavana, Dhyana Sadhana as well as Ryshivana, are under the
jurisdiction of the Provincial Council of Karnataka–Goa province of the
Discalced Carmelites. A board consisting of three members each
administers these two sections of the one institute. A director, an
administrator and dean at Dhyanavana; a director and administrator at
Dhyana Sadhana; so also a director and an administrator guide the
programme at Ryshivana. There are also very many auxiliary staff at
various levels. Besides, there is on the faculty a team of
well-qualified and experienced visiting professors.
Affiliation and Recognition:
Dhyanavana institute is recognized by Teresianum, Rome, the Pontifical
Faculty of Spirituality. The qualification obtained here is recognized
at the graduate level in any catholic university world over. Recognition
by the Civil University is being considered.
Diploma / Certificate:
An academic diploma or certificate will be awarded to successful
candidates. The Diploma students will obtain along with the diploma, the
grade obtained for the research paper, the details of subject wise
marks, the results of group assignments as well as the grade for
internal assessment.
Attendance:
Students are expected to attend all lectures and study group
discussions without fail, participate in all the activities of the
Institute, and furnish all academic assignments. Any period of absence
should be duly informed before hand to the director or the dean. For
longer leave of absence the respective Provincial should inform the
director well in advance in writing.
Computer Lab and Internet Facility
When the revolution in telecommunication and mass media is ever on high
beat, the religious are to be equipped at least with the basic knowledge
of computers and internet maneuver. The institute has updated and
installed the modern computer lab and mass media studio which is placed
at the disposal of the students and research scholars. The institute
offers a basic course on computer science especially for those who do
the fundamentals of the same. For academic quality and excellence the
institute expects all written assignments which form part of the
academic curriculum to be done on computer and in prescribed format.
