Study Tour to Golden Temple at Kushalnagar

The Nine Month Course sisters of Dhyanavana had a study tour on Sunday 12, October, 2014. The day started at 6 am with a prayer in the chapel. We boarded the hired bus for the tour, and proceeded to Dornahalli, Mysore, Shrine of St. Anthony of Padua. We offered mass in the shrine and visited the place where the Statue of St. Anthony was found. Fr. Gilbert D’Silva, Rector of the shrine explained to us the history of the shrine. Around 150 years ago when a Hindu man ploughing the field he got a statue of St. Anthony. He didn’t know what it was. His children began to play with it thinking it to be a doll. But in a dream a man (St. Anthony) appeared to him and asked to built a small shrine. But the hindu farmer neglected. Many calamities came on his family. Finally, he contacted some foreign missionaries in Mysore and through them he came to know that it was the statue of St. Anthony. He built a small shrine and his family prospered. Seeing this many other Hindus also began to pray and many miracles were witnessed. Gradually it was developed into a world famous shrine. Now it is frequented by lakhs of people specially during the feast.

Then we went to Golden temple, Tibetian colony of Kushalnagar. One of the inmates Mr. Lan Chung explained to us the significance of Golden Temple. When the tourists from foreign countries visited the temple, seeing the temple adorned with Gold they called it the Golden temple. Now there are more than 4000 monks and nuns in the monastery. Any one who want to be a lama can join the monastery. They have 14 years of study and live a religious community life.

From there we visited our Carmelite Novitiate Tapovana at Kushalnagar. The Fathers there served a sumptuous lunch. After going around the property on our way back we also visited the Bharat Matha educational institutions and enjoyed the high tea given by Fr. Immanuel. CMI. We reached back at 8.15 pm.

It was really a educational and relaxing trip. All the sisters gave a very good positive feed back.
