Seminar on Consecrated
Life in the Third Millennium - Hopes and Challenges:
January 26, Dhyanavana International Institute of Spirituality, Mysore
organized a full day seminar on Consecrated life in the third
millennium: hopes and challenges. At 9:00 am seminar started with
registration and at sharp 9:15 am programme was begun. Participant’s
response was enthralling and mind boggling. Sisters from 53
congregations from Mysore, ten congregation sisters from Dhyanavana and
four men congregation brothers and fathers participated in the Seminar.
Number of the participants swelled into 436 and more. Seminar was
organized in Pushpashrama premises.
Seminar was commenced by invoking God’s choicest blessings on the
gathering. Rev. Fr. Dominic Vas Director of Dhyanavana welcomed the
gathering and briefed about the institute and the purpose of the
seminar. Then the dignitaries were called forward to light the lamp and
then creatively the monastic door was opened by Rev. Fr. Provincial,
Rev. Fr. Alfred Menezes and Rev. Fr. Dominic Vas in order to unravel the
log of the year. Afterwards Fr. Dominic introduced Rev. Fr. Provincial
to the gathering and invited him for the keynote address.
Very Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao, OCD Provincial Karnaataka Goa Province in
his keynote address dealt with the challenges of Religious formation
today. He spoke about vital elements of formation, motivation, aptitudes
for vocation and formation and challenges of today in formation.
Very Rev. Dr. Pius James, OCD Episcopal Vicar for Religious of Mangalore
Diocese and Director of Ryshivana, Mangalore dealt on the Biblical
foundation of Religious Life. In his talk he emphasized on a special
call to Israel and the objectives of the special call and its main
characteristics like; Called for an intimate relationship, Consecrated
with a typical life style and commissioned for a particular function.
Rev. Dr. Baptist Rodrigues, OFM- Professor, Deena Seva Ashram, Bangalore
spoke about, Consecrated life: A historical Perspective. He narrated the
origin and initial development of Religious Life up to twentieth
century.
Rev. Dr. Xavier Manavath, CMF Episcopal vicar for Religious of Bangalore
and Director of Sanyasa presented a paper on New way of living the
Evangelical Counsels today. He on dealt on the points like Understanding
of the vows until the council, pressing concerns regarding vows and the
emerging vision after the council.
Rev. Dr. Selvaraj Arulnathan SJ, Head, Research Unit, Indian Social
Institute, Bangalore. He presented a paper on Prophetic Dimension of
Consecrated life in the Multi- Religious and social context of India. He
highlighted on the following points, Consecrated life in India,
consecrated life as prophetic role within the church, Indian social
scenario and mission of a religious amidst the poverty.
Swami Karunakarnada – Professor, Ramakrisna Institute of Moral and
Spiritual Education (RIMSE), Mysore. He spoke about the basic concept of
traditional Advaita sannayassa. The difference between Ramakrisna Order
Sannyasins from traditional Sannyasins, the basic workings of Ramakrisna
Mission, their formation daily schedule and their spiritual life.
Rev. Fr. Sylvester D Souza OCD Councilor In Charge of Spirituality
carried on the deliberations and valediction.
Thus the programme came to an end at 4:30 by singing the anthem of
Dhyanavana and serving the high tea. All the participants were in praise
for organizing seminar on consecrated life and selecting eminent
speakers to present the papers on the same. Programme was compeered by
Rev. Fr. Canute and the physical nourishment of the participants was
looked after by Rev. Fr. Richard Saldanha. We express heartfelt
gratitude to Pushpashrama community for their whole hearted cooperation.
